What RON is
Remote Online Notarization is a notarization completed over a live, recorded audio-video session on a state-approved platform. You verify your identity electronically, sign the document electronically, and the notary applies an electronic seal. The result is a legally valid notarized document, delivered as a PDF.
Is it legal in Arizona?
Yes. Arizona authorized Remote Online Notarization by statute, and notaries must hold a separate RON authorization from the Secretary of State to perform it. Blue Ink Notary Pros holds that authorization.
What you need
- A computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone
- A reliable internet connection
- A valid government-issued photo ID
- The document in electronic form (PDF)
- To be physically located in the United States during the session (some exceptions apply)
How the identity check works
Before the video session, you answer a short set of knowledge-based questions drawn from public records, then photograph your ID for automated verification. This is stricter than an in-person ID check and is required by law.
What it's good for
RON is ideal when travel is difficult: out-of-state signers, people with mobility limits, business documents that need a quick turnaround, and situations where someone is temporarily away from Arizona.
When RON might not work
Some receiving parties still require ink signatures. Certain court filings and some real estate documents recorded in other states fall into this category. Before booking a RON session, confirm with whoever will receive the document that they accept electronic notarizations. If they don't, a mobile in-person appointment is the alternative.
Is it secure?
The session is recorded and retained as required by Arizona law, the identity verification is multi-step, and the finished document carries a tamper-evident digital seal. In practice, RON documents are harder to forge than paper ones.
